The first edition of the European Sustainable Development Week (May 30 – June 5) is about to start – and you can join too! By sharing via Twitter and Facebook a picture of a product that you repaired in the last year – in a Repair Caf\u00e9 or at home. With your ‘#fixitselfie’ you can, moreover, win a free Pro Tech toolkit from iFixit.<\/p>\n

The Repair Caf\u00e9 Foundation strives to bring repair back into daily life. This is important, because making more repairs means that we create less waste, that we foster sustainable use of precious resources and that we help to save energy and reduce CO2 emissions.<\/p>\n

Repair skills disappear<\/strong>
\nUnfortunately, repair is not always made easy. New items that we buy in the shops, are often not easy to repair; they have been designed to last only a few years and then to be replaced. Also, new products are often so cheap, that many professional repairers can no longer keep their heads above water. This way, repair skills disappear from society.<\/p>\n

This needs to change! That’s why we, and a number of other organisations, are pushing to make the European Union aware of the importance of reparable products. And of the need to preserve repair skills in neighbourhoods. That’s where we need your help!<\/p>\n

This is what you can do:<\/strong>
\n* take a picture of a product that you (had) repaired in the last year – in a Repair Caf\u00e9 or at home
\n* upload this picture to Facebook or Twitter, using the hashtag #fixitselfie
\n* we will collect al these pictures on Storify<\/a>
\n* and will alert European policy makers to this collection during the European Sustainable Development Week<\/a><\/p>\n

Upload your picture before June 8, and you can win a free toolkit from iFixit. The winner will be randomly picked. Apart from this, everyone will receive a 10% rebate on all purchases in the European iFixit store<\/a> using the coupon code ‘#fixitselfie’ during the campaign.<\/p>\n

Mission statement reparable products<\/strong>
